I'm hoping Apple begins talking about before WWDC though.Īlso, my guess for release between January and February 2011. My guess is that 10.7 will have Developer Preview at WWDC 2010 (obviously) BUT I wouldn't be surprised if they held some sort of March event and distributed it then.
They'd integrate the OS X software page on Apple into it so you could browse for software through the same window. Instead of going to the store to get 10.7, you get it via SU. In addition, you could buy software through it.
Apple would open it up to third-party devs, and when it runs it'd let you update all of your apps. I don't see apple closing the platform like the iPhone is, I see it more as a Software Update on steroids. As for the OS X App Store: It's coming for sure, I don't see why it wouldn't. Apple will dump Rosetta and likely, Core Duo support from the OS. Going with the last 2 OS's, we'll see a preview of 10.7 at WWDC 2010, with a release in August/September 2011. I've long suspected that the hints we've been given (dark dock menus, expose, inspector panels, the icon view in iTunes and the coverflow views in iApps are a "preview" of Marble. iPhone and other things already use it extensively. Font to replace Lucide Grande: Helvetica Neue. What are your hopes and expectations for the next version of OS X? I'm hoping Cougar (lion) and iLife '10 will revolutionise the experience for consumers. More MobileMe features, such as automatic backing up to iDisk? ( sure )Īfter the under-the-hood enhancements of Snow Leopard, I think the next major end-user evolution of OS X will come with 10.7.App Store for OS X? Easy and clean install, uninstall of Apps.Vastly improved Finder with new tools for file-managing and organisation, folder encryption and protection ( sure ).Automatic association detection ( possibly ) New Spaces, with each space being nameable and each space having its own desktop background if wanted by the user.Mail, iCal etc), application groupings, optional thumbnail views. New-look Dock, featuring badge notifications even when app is closed (i.e.Mail, iCal, Address Book etc to receive big visual and feature overhauls, while a new dedicated RSS app is added to lineup. Context menus take on the white-on-black look of the Snow Leopard dock systemwide. Refreshed Application and other icons systemwide. Possibly a new native font to replace Lucida Grande, a dark menu bar, dark chrome windows and darker, flattened blue, black and white elements. Resolution independent and touch-screen friendly. New Marble interface, replacing the Aqua look.Fully 64bit, completing the transition ( possibly ).
